Flashback Friday- Tupac "Hit 'Em Up"
Addressing any one who opened their mouth with a muthaf*ckin opinion, "Hit ‘Em Up" dropped in June of 1996. With Pac’s hard hitting, no mixing words, grimy, taking no prisoners style of rapping, that eloquently, explicitly and unmistakingly lets his rivals know- in no uncertain terms- what he can and will do, this is considered by far one of the greatest diss songs in hip hop history. This song samples the bassline from Dennis Edwards’ “Don’t Look Any Further” and threatens everyone from Biggie, to Puffy, to Junior MAFIA, to Mobb Deep and other Bad Boy artists.
At one point, Pac is going so hard, that he says “I don’t even know why I’m on this track, y’all n*ggas ain’t even on my level, imma let my little homies ride on you b*ch made ass bad boy b*tches! His group, the Outlaws, take over the rest of the rap.
The video even includes impersonations of Biggie, Puffy and Lil Kim. "Hit ‘Em Up" is at the center of the East Coast, West Coast hip hop rivalry and added to the controversy surrounding Tupac’s death, since he was murdered just three months after its release.
Die slow mutha f*cka!
My 4-4 make sure all yall kids don’t grow!
You muthaf*ckas can’t be us or see us!
