Denzel Washington: A Lifetime of Success
With a walk that is unmistakable and a presence that is undeniable, Denzel Washington has provided us with some of Hollywood's most unforgettable movie roles and lines. He was nomimated for Best Supporting Actor in 1987's Cry Freedom and he would win the award just 2 years later for his epic performance in Glory. He is no stranger to films that brought attention to sensitive topics and made us think about race, inequalites and injustices. From Malcolm X to Philadelphia, from The Pelican Brief to Hurricane, Denzel Washington has been drawing us excitedly to the movie theater year after year.
Who can forget Coach Herman Boone bringing his team together despite horrible racial tension in Remember the Titans or Jake Shuttlesworth encouraging his son in He Got Game? His portrayal of corrupt Alonzo Harris in Training Day garnered him the Acacdemy Award for Best Actor in 2001. He showed us how to walk by fatih in The Book of Eli and how you can be brought down by a fur coat as drug kingpin Frank Lucas, in American Gangster. He is an Academy Award wiinner, NAACP Image Award winner, Screen Actors Guild Award winner and Tony Award Winner. It's no surprise that he can now add the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award to his long list of accolades. Denzel is currently working on The Equalizer 2 and a remake of the 1960's classic The Magnificent Seven.
