Meek Mill is Free at Last
The justice system has a way of entrapping young African American men. Meek Mill's case shines a light on this theory. Meek caught a case at the age of 19 for weapon and drug charges, and he served 7 months in jail for the case. The rapper is now 30 and is still on probation for a offense he committed as a teenager. The rapper was recently sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison for violating his probation on charges that were dropped. The entire situation had the hip hop community in an up roar after the Pennsylvania judge served Meek with such a harsh sentence.
After fighting to be released for months and several rallies in the Philly area they have finally freed Meek Mills. The Pennsylvania jail granted Meek bail on Tuesday April 24. Meek also has to abide by several restrictions, like not being able to leave the Philly area will out on bail. Despite Meek Mill being released from jail he opens up about not really being free in his first interview with Lester Holt on NBC. Meek Mill says he recognizes this as "a very important moment".
