Missy Misdemeanor Elliott Delivers Stellar Performance At The 2019 VMA's And Takes Home Vanguar
Yoooooo! Can we please talk about Missy's performance at the 2019 VMA's? Missy and her dancers straight killed that performance. On August 23, Missy released her latest album entitled, “Iconology.” She never disappoints as she performed her hit single, “Throw It Back” at the VMA's. As stated by Missy via Twitter, “Let's #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance.” Baby, this song, this video, this album, and this performance without a doubt did that! If you weren't dancing in your chair at home or up on your feet before Missy's performance was over, then clearly you weren't watching what we were. Missy also performed some of her classic hits such as “Pass That Dutch,” “Lose Control,” “Get Your Freak On,” and “The Rain,” bringing back that infamous black trash bag outfit from the video. Missy kept it true classic with the dance moves, and at the same time, gave us that new innovative steps that make you want to go home and practice. She even brought back Alyson Stoner, the little girl from music videos like “Work it.”
How can we forget about Missy's costume changes at this year's VMA's? If she didn't change costumes for every song she performed, it sure looked as though she did! She even had costumes reminiscent of the music videos she's done over the years.
Of course, she's fly in every single one.
To top off the night, Missy was awarded the 2019 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award! She deserves that award because just like her latest album's title, Missy is iconic. She is a dancer, writer, producer, rapper, musician, and all around entertainer. An ecstatic and humbled Missy starts her speech by saying, “I promised I wouldn't cry, this time, cause I cry at every awards.” She thanks a lot of people during her acceptance speech, including her mom and also pays homage to the late Aaliyah. But she also makes sure to dedicate the award to the dance community everywhere around the world. She referred to the dancers who grace stages with artists that, “they are not just props, but the icing on the cake and the beat to the heart.” How awesome of her to acknowledge such an important part of a performance and the people who help make it possible. Missy is truly one in a million and can't ever be duplicated.
As she so eloquently put it on her Instagram post, "Don't look for another Missy cause there'll be no nother one!"
