"David Makes Man"A Riveting New Show On OWN
How can David stay on the straight and narrow, when life's road is full of so many twists and turns?
Tarell Alvin McCraney brings us more than a tv show. He brings us a part of him, a part of his childhood past that provoked the conception of this show. In a sit down interview with Oprah Winfrey on own.com, McCraney compares some situations that David goes through on the show to what he has experienced himself as a young black boy growing up in Homestead, Florida.
The show follows a teenage David as he tries to avoid and dodge the complications of life being a young African American boy living in the projects. In stride with being raised by a single mom, David also steps up to help take care of his younger brother and maintain an outstanding academic and behavioral record while attending a magnet school outside of his neighborhood. David is pulled every way as he struggles with choices that can lead him in the opposite path in which he's trying to go. Throughout the episodes, David is frequently visited by an old friend who wants to help him, but David still is torn between right and wrong for the betterment of his family's current circumstances. He wants to attend a top high school called Hurston, but he also wants to help his mom keep all of their heads above water. He knows what he can do to help, but he also knows that it can get him into a world of trouble. How can he focus on getting into Hurston when the daily struggles of his home life affects him so severely?
David Makes Man airs every Wednesday on OWN at 10/9c.
