To Earthgang or Not To Earthgang?
Many people are still unfamiliar with who Earthgang is. Well open your mind, eyes, soul, and ears because Earthgang is here to take us to the mothership baby bubba!
Eccentric and eclectic are two ways to describe this Atlanta rap duo, not to mention extremely talented. The duo is composed of Olu a.k.a. Johnny Venus and WowGr8 a.k.a. Doctur Dot. They are signed to J. Cole's label Dreamville. In 2010 they released their first mixtape "The Better Party." Some people will categorize their sound as a hip hop, soul funk kind of vibe. You can see similarities in Earthgang that would make you think this is a second coming of Outkast, the legendary rap duo who also hails from Atlanta, Georgia. Not to get it twisted, they are two seperate groups who are both talented and successful in their own right. Much controversy arose when global influencer Julieanna Goddard, who's also known as YesJulz on social media compared the two groups.
YesJulz posted to her Twitter, "Earthgang is like the OutKast of this generation only with two Andre’s. I’m so here for it. & don’t fuckin @ me"
Such remarks sparked heated debates on social media which prompted Earthgang to respond.
Earthgang stays true to their native Atlanta roots, incorporating in their lyrics where and how life has been for them. At the same time, it seems as though they levitate to and through different dimensions and bring us back bits and pieces from each journey. Their new album "Mirrorland" is out now and are currently on the #WhatOnEarthTour with a show in London September 26.
