Botham Jean's Killer Sentenced To 10 Years

The murderer's name is Amber Guyger. An innocent man's life is gone, an entire family's life ruined, and the killer gets 10 years with a likely possibility of getting out early. She killed Botham Jean back in September of 2018 after alleging she mistakenly walked into the wrong apartment and killed Jean, thinking he was an intruder. Guyger was actually a Dallas police officer at the time of Jean's murder.

Well just over a year later, Guyger was found guilty in a court of law. A lot of people were skeptical that she would even be found guilty given that she's a white female police officer in Texas. But she was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Does the punishment really fit the crime? What if the roles were reversed? What if it was Jean who commited the crime? Would he have only received 10 years? Would any of the victim's family members have hugged him? Would the judge have gotten down from her bench to warmly embrace Jean and give him words of comfort?

The America we live in claims to have laws that pertain to everyone equally. We know differently. We know that class, race, job status, and gender undoubtedly plays a major role in how laws and sentencing affects people in America.

Do you think 10 years is befitting of the crime given all the evidence and testimonies?
