Eddie Murphy Is Dynamite In Classic Remake "Dolemite"
The 1970's blaxploitation film "Dolemite" was remade with Eddie Murphy as Dolemite and began streaming on Netflix October 25. Comedian and musician Rudy Ray Moore created the fictional pimp character for his comedic acts. Moore then decided to turn his talents to the big screen and began a journey to actually bring Dolemite to life.
Without any knowledge or experience in the film industry, Moore recruited acquaintances and UCLA film students to bring hsi Dolemite dream to fruition. During the 1970's, Dolemite's persona was what the African American community was drawn to because it was damn near their reality. A rhyming pimp with swag and style, who could make you laugh and could kick butt, pretending to know kung-fu. Moore had the idea to combine everything he thought people would like into his films.
The film, and many others like it, got mixed reviews. Blaxploitation is indeed a touchy issues. On one hand, it's reminiscent to an extent of the African American culture. People could relate to what was happening in the movie. On the other hand, it was very stereotypical. The films had the cussing, the pimps and hoes, the flashy clothes and jewelry. 1970 blaxploitation films were closely related to real life for a lot of the African American community. It made you laugh, made you angry, and made you cry. It was good seeing us on the big screen, but it wasn't so good because non African Americans had all the more reason to stereotype black people.
However, Murphy really did Dolemite's character justice. You can also catch some of your other favorite entertainers in the movie like,Snoop Dogg, T.I., Mike Epps,Chris Rock, Craig Robinson, Luenell, and more. The movie was extremely funny and very much was identical to the 1970's original. Bravo!
